Paws & Poise

Grooming Service App

Case Study

01. Overview

Paws & Poise is a conceptual project. A family-owned mobile pet grooming business that currently manages appointments through phone calls and emails, making scheduling difficult due to increased customer demand. To improve efficiency and boost sales of their homemade pet care products, they want a mobile app that allows customers to book grooming appointments and purchase products online.

02. Problem

Jay is our user persona. He needs to be able to schedule an appointment to groom his pet while he’s on the subway or running errands. He wants this process to be as smooth as possible. He also wants to receive feedback and notifications.

It took 10 seconds and 7 clicks (including purchasing care products) to book a grooming appointment

03. Design Process

For this project, I interviewed five dog owners to better understand their experiences, needs, and frustrations.

  • 5 users were interviewed.

  • 2 out of 5 mentioned that currently they do not use grooming services due to cost.

  • 3 out of the 5 users who do use grooming services stated that they do not have a choice since their lifestyles oblige them to schedule an appointment for their furry friends.

After analyzing their responses, I created an affinity map to identify common trends and developed a persona that highlighted their goals, pain points, and motivations.

Using this research, I began sketching solutions focused on making the booking process easier and more convenient for busy pet owners. I considered real-life situations like commuting, running errands, or doing chores while designing the user journey and app flow.

04. Solution & Results

Most users shared that grooming services are essential because of their busy lifestyles, and that affordable pet care products are also important to them. Based on these insights, I designed a simple and intuitive wireframe with a clear calendar booking system where users can quickly choose a date and time. Users who only need pet care products can shop through the app and earn rewards and discounts.

Participants also mentioned wanting a more personalized grooming experience for their pets. To address this, I added a feature where pet owners receive a photo of their dog on the appointment confirmation page after booking a grooming service.

This project taught me the importance of active listening, empathy, and designing solutions that truly address users’ needs and frustrations.
